The annual inter hose sports meet of Dharmaraja College, one of the most awaited events in the school calendar was held on 26th February 2016 at the college grounds. Mr. P.B Palamkumbura , the chief accountant of the department of education central province graced the occasion as the chief guest while the deputy director , finance, department of education central province, Mr.C.C.S.J Pathirage was present as the guest of honor. The chief guest and the guest of honor were escorted to the pavilion by the principal Mr.S.M Keerthirathne, P.O.G Mr. Saliya alexander, the respective masters in-charge of the house and the members of the sports council.
The sports day started off with carrying the sports flag to the ground and it was followed by hosting of the national flag, sports flag and the flags of the four houses; Gemunu, Parakrama, Ananda and Mahinada. The most solemn part of the ceremony was the relay of the Olympic torch by the noteworthy sportsmen of the college and the march of the athletes. To enliven the sports event, the Olympic torch was lit by the games captain of the school and the sports meet was declared open. The secretary of the college sports council, master T.A Wijerathne administered oath to the athletes the scheduled events of the day included under 12, 13, 14, and 15, 4*100m relays, under 16,17 and 19,4*400m relays and invitational relays. The drill display and the march past were the last event in the programme and it was followed by the speech of the principal Mr. S.M Keerthirathne. In his speech the principal complemented all the athletes for their commitment towards the sports and appreciated especially the teachers who contributed their utmost support in organizing the event. The chief guest, in his speech mentioned the importance of children growing through participating in extracurricular activities.
The declaration of the results drew the event to the climax and the following sportsmen became the best athletes in their relevant age categories.
According to the overall results Gemunu house became the first in the annual inter house sports meet and Ananda , Parakrama and Mahinda hoses became second, third and fourth respectively.
The vote of thanks was delivered by master T.A Wijerathne and the sports meet was declared close by the chief guest and all gathered, dispersed.
